Bruce Pitts has saved the life of Blanche Roberts who had been pinned under the body of her 77-year-old dead husband. Blanche was pinned under her husband for at least two days before being discovered.

Pitts, a newspaper carrier, became concerned after seeing the Roberts’ papers build up in the mailbox. Pitts went into the home to check to see if the couple was home and found Mrs. Roberts.

The question now isn’t “Is Vista Dead?” It is. The real question is: Can Microsoft get Windows 7 out in time to save its desktop domination? I think Microsoft “could” pull it off. Here’s how.

Vista is dead.

That’s not what Bill Gates said at a seminar on corporate philanthropy in Miami on April 4, but it might as well have been. What Gates actually said, according to the Reuters report, is that he expects that the next desktop version of Windows, Windows 7, would be released “sometime in the next year or so.”

Goodbye Vista. It has not been fun knowing you.

I predicted that Microsoft was giving up on Vista in January. It seems I was right. Microsoft’s own top brass had hated Vista when it first came out, why should they expect anyone else to like it?

16-year-old Ahmad Rahimi was described by his class mates as a happy guy who got along with everyone. On his way to school he decided to take a shortcut across the railroad tracks frequented by students on a regular basis.

The stretch of tracks the students cross regularly sees trains going through at speeds close to 80 mph. Ahmad failed to notice one of these trains and was killed instantly. He is now the fourth person killed crossing the tracks since February 2005.

The tracks the students cross lead directly to the back of the high school as opposed to the designated crossing 200 yards away. School officials say students are counseled on the dangers and receive handbooks about crossing the tracks. Read more »

A Florida boy was arrested on first-degree murder charges after he beat and choked his 8-year-old brother to death. Demetrius Key initially told police two stories before admitting he punched, choked, then banged his brothers head on the floor.

The mother said she had left Demetrius in charge of Levarus and a few younger siblings. Levares consumed a dessert that he was not allowed to eat and he also made himself bleed by picking his own scab.

Demetrius was afraid his brother would tell their mom he did it. A neighbor reported hearing 4 load bangs followed by 10 minutes of silence. Demetrius alerted his mom and told her that Levarus had “passed out”. Read more »

pavaro.jpgArguably opera’s biggest star, Luciano Pavarotti, has died in Italy last night after being diagnosed last year with pancreatic cancer. Pavarotti was hospitalised yesterday, with spokespeople confirming his condition had worsened.

Pavarotti’s career was diverse, and his stardom was worldwide. Breaking out of the Opera house, Pavarotti appeared on Saturday Night Live, won five Grammy awards, and attended the Kennedy Center Honors with Jack Nicholson and Julie Andrews.

He is perhaps best known as one of the Three Tenors, an opera group he formed with Placido Domingo and Jose Carreras. Pavarotti was 71.
